Sampling & Hip Hop

Us vinyl enthusiasts can spend hours digging thru crates of records.  Some of us may just be collectors of vinyl, some may buy records for listening pleasure, but some of us are looking for that perfect sample.  I’m one of those looking for that perfect record to sample.  Diggin’ is a BIG part of hip hop.  Diggin’ is the reason why a lot of us have that favorite beat to nod our heads to.  Or should I say that diggin’ IS the reason that all of us have that favorite beat to nod our heads to?    

Those producers who were going diggin’ back in the day opened up a lot of doors, but with all the greed and love of money that has taken over the world, sampling is avoided because of legal matters.  To me, records contain the most important element of the beat.  The sample from the record is like the soul of the whole beat whether it be a loop or just one note from a piano.  Yeah Hip Hop is more than just music but would Hip Hop music have become as big as it is without those sampled beats?
